CHAPTER SIX

The feelings that followed the trial and garden hadn’t left: the anxiety, the guilt, and the awe. The heat of it was still clinging, trailing him through the fortress corridors as Ashfall led the way. Something electric threaded his veins. He let the sound of the quiet tread of boots over ancient stone and the whisper of wind through high unseen vents calm him until they reached a pair of ornate polished golden doors at the corridor’s end. Ashfall touched them and they disappeared into a golden mist. He gestured for Valen to enter first.

He stepped inside but soon stopped to take it all in. The room was carved into one of the Moon’s highest points, a curved clear magitech shield ceiling let the starlight spill in.

You could see farther into the galaxy of Vaerenthis than he had ever seen at once, probably enhanced by the shield, and the sight nearly made him forget how to stand.
